SalClean

SalClean

An effective anti-salmonella mixture of powerful organic acids and salts with highly selected and purified essential oils. All these synergistic compounds have typical broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, especially against Salmonella spp. SalClean™ is of great importance as a means of biohygienic processing of feed for pigs and poultry. SalClean™ is used to reduce the number of harmful pathogens, especially gram-negative enterobacteria (such as Salmonella spp. and E. coli) in feed both during storage and in the gastrointestinal tract (GT) of monogastric animals. It is a unique, well-balanced blend of acidifiers with synergistic botanicals. This powerful and simple combination (mostly bactericidal, non-corrosive organic acids and essential oils) allows continuous control of enteric pathogens, which remain a costly phenomenon for producers.

Organic acids contribute to lowering the pH in feed, the gastrointestinal tract and inside the pathogenic cell. It also helps to improve the secretion and activation of more digestive enzymes in the animal's stomach and pancreas. Organic acids also help reduce the production of ammonia and other growth-inhibiting microbial metabolites. In particular, benzoic acid has an excellent positive-modulating effect on the composition of the microflora and, thus, also on the morphology of the intestine (epithelial adsorption surface). In fact, it is the only acid that really effectively kills harmful yeast. Benzoic acid improves overall nutrient utilization resulting in higher daily gain, improved feed conversion and better carcass and grade 1 meat yield. In addition, benzoic acid acts as a powerful flavor additive when consuming feed for pigs.

Essential oils or plant substances make the cell membranes of pathogens more permeable so that undissociated organic acids can more easily penetrate the bacteria and trigger the death of the microbial cell. Plant thymol stimulates the excretion of endogenous digestive enzymes so that less undigested material is available to pathogenic organisms for fermentation (e.g. into toxic biogenic amines), which is known to cause diarrhea and consequent wet litter (e.g. in stage piglets excommunication). These natural growth promoters (NGPs) have significant antioxidant and organoleptic properties that help increase feed attention and therefore daily intake.

The synergy in SalClean™ prevents the growth of microbes, especially Gram-negative species such as Salmonella, E.coli, Klebsiella, as well as Campylobacter. In addition, the desired effects were described in tests on gram-positive species of streptococci and clostridia. Additional suppression of harmful yeasts and molds makes SalClean™ also suitable for canning feed. SalClean™ has specific microbial targets and, due to its pH-lowering effect, does not affect beneficial microbial populations such as lactobacilli, bifidobacteria or even commercial probiotic preparations (eg E. faecium).
